World Cup continues on European soil: Nové Mesto stage for round three
After two legs in South America, the UCI Mountain Bike World Series is back in Europe. Nové Mesto, a favorite among riders, will host Team BMC next weekend.
Juri Zanotti views Nové Mesto as an opportunity to demonstrate once more his aspirations for Paris 2024 to the Italian Olympic Committee. The Italian rider has recovered well from the cold and wet European Championships and hopes to maintain his good form into May.
Titouan Carod showed in those same championships that he is gradually getting into the shape he wants to be in. Every race, the two-time World Cup race-winner makes progress, and the racing in Nové Mesto suits him as a technically advanced rider. He will be hoping everything comes together in the Czech Republic.
Following the French national championships two weeks ago, Sarrou is wearing the tricolor in the XCO races. Sarrou, consistent as always, will enjoy a "new kit day" as the leader in the UCI XC individual ranking, thanks to his consistent top-class performances.
Team BMC’s U23 riders, Janis Baumann and Maxime l’Homme, are entering an important period. The two Swiss youngsters will make their 2024 debut in the World Cup Series with slightly different targets than their elite teammates this Olympic season. With the World Cups ahead, this and next month, May and June are among the most important months for the two Team BMC U23 riders.
Last but not least, Steffi Häberlin will be looking to continue showcasing her progress and fitness after a fantastic campaign overseas, during which she achieved career-best results in the World Cups.
