Sarrou wins his first-ever XCO World Cup in Snowshoe
In Snowshoe, USA, Jordan Sarrou claimed Team BMC's inaugural World Cup win of the season. On a course that had been favorable to Team BMC riders in recent years, the French cyclist riding the Fourstroke was finally rewarded for his consistent performance throughout the season.
Throughout the year, Sarrou consistently ranked among the top riders, securing multiple podium finishes in various World Cup events. This Sunday in Snowshoe turned out to be his day.
"I've waited so long for this, and it feels incredible! It was a closely contested race, and winning my first-ever World Cup is an amazing feeling!"
Sarrou got off to the fastest start in the pack and strategically positioned himself throughout the race. At crucial points, the former world champion consistently held a position among the top three riders, while also conserving energy by drafting when the course allowed it.
Energy left in the tank
As his competitors made technical errors and his breakaway companion suffered a flat tire during the fifth lap, Sarrou found himself leading the race and refused to give in, even when his competitors caught up with him in the final lap. It turned into a nail-biting finale.
Sarrou commented: "I had a gap for two laps, and then I maintained my pace, but I didn't push too hard because you can easily exhaust yourself when suddenly gaining such an advantage. I had some energy left in the tank."
"I executed my race plan perfectly, and it went exactly as I had hoped. I remained focused throughout the entire race, and in the end, I did it. I am so so happy!"
Overall World Cup standings
With Sarrou standing atop the podium, Team BMC members and staff could only smile. Team manager Amaël Moinard stated that Sarrou's victory is a testament to the team's commitment throughout the season. "This is a great day for everyone who follows Team BMC racing. We are all thrilled for Jordan."
Titouan Carod finished 35th, Juri Zanotti 59th due to a mechanical issue, and Steffi Häberlin placed 31st. In the morning, Janis Baumann finished 28th in the U23 category.
Finally, Sarrou is once again a strong contender for the overall World Cup Series victory, currently sitting in second place in the standings. With one more World Cup event to go, in Mont-Saint-Anne, the season's conclusion promises to be an exciting one.”
